The Thirsty Flowers
-----------------------------------------------------------
Monday, a maximum of 21C, woe is me.
-----------------------------------------------------------
At the back of a yard, not yours and not ours
Lived a bed-full of raggedy, half-dying flowers
For it’d been more than three months and a quarter
Since Mad Jack McCann had bothered to water.
Now that might not have been so cruel or so painful
If the season was one that was good for some rainfall
But this was the height of a terrible drought
As those raggedy flowers were now finding out.
I attended the book launch of The Thirsty Flowers yesterday. I must say that fairy bread and champagne work a treat together. Oh sometimes I feel a bit Peter Pan-ish... I'm the girl that never grew up. The book is really lovely, lots of great pictures. What could possibly be more entertaining than a picture book about thirsty flowers, I hear you ask? Well, not much, apart from perhaps this little gem someone sent me from The Age website over the weekend: 'The Walt Disney Co. yesterday said it took "appropriate action" against employees at its Paris theme park who were caught simulating sex while dressed as Disney characters. The video shows Minnie Mouse struggling to free herself as she is grabbed from behind by Goofy and then a giant snowman.' Now if that doesn't cheer you up for the week, nothing will.
